Wood Cty Director Communication to Chiefs
The following letter was sent to all of the Wood County Fire Department Chiefs on Jan 26:
Dear Wood County Emergency Response Facility:
In a cooperative effort between the Wood County E.M.A. office and the group of volunteers of the Wood County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (W.C.A.R.E.S.) organization, an aggressive project was undertaken to install antennas and feedlines in many of the emergency response facilities throughout the county. The purpose of these antennas would be to provide a “backbone” of communications and support for the county to be used in the event of a catastrophic failure of the Wood County communications system or an emergency event(s) that would overwhelm the communications system.
Much progress has been made on this project since it’s inception with the following emergency response facility sites either completed, near completion, or in the planning stages:
• Wood County Sheriff’s Office
• American Red Cross – Bowling Green
• Wood County Hospital
• Portage – Central Joint Fire District
• Perrysburg Township Fire Department
• Lake Township Fire Department
• Grand Rapids Fire Department
• Pemberville-Freedom Fire Department
• Milton Center Fire Department
• Weston Fire Department
• Washington Township Fire Department
The plan is to continue this work in 2007 with the cooperation of several more sites. These installations are being done only with the approval and cooperation of the local emergency response facilities. Please let us know whether or not you are interested in having this work completed for your facility. If you need additional information before a decision can be made or if you would like to be added to this list to be completed, please contact W.C.A.R.E.S. Emergency Coordinator Mr. Robert Schumann (kg2bc@arrl.net) or the Wood County E.M.A. office. Thank you for your continued cooperation in this important matter.
Sincerely,
Bradley J. Gilbert
EMA Director
