EXCELLENT MEETING!
We had a wonderful meeting on last Saturday. Two new members were signed up, Mark Wasylyshyn, KD8BOI, (our Wood County Sheriff), and Scott Baker, KC8BHV,(a former police officer and now a dispatched for the City of Northwood), filled out applications. A total of sixteen members were in attendance. We got a look at the new trailer that was provided by Eric Larson, Wood County EMA Direscor. It will be perferct for emergency depolyment once we get all the radio equipment and generator installed. Additionally, I brought all the members up to date on the antennas for the fire and police stations that the Sherrif and EMA want deployed. A beautiful day and a good meeting. Sorry all of you could not attend. I have updated the roster and it can be found on this webpage for your use.
Thanks!

Exciting Meeting on Saturday, May 28, 2005
Our regular monthly meeting will hold a few delights for those who attend. We've been given access to a trailer that we can modify for field activities by the Wood County EMA. The trailer is to be stored at the Wood County Sheriff's Office so that it can be deployed, 365/24/7 as needed. Also, our Sheriff, Mark Wasylyshyn, was recently licensed as KD8BOI and will be in attendance. The meeting will be held at 9:00 AM at the Wood County Sheriff's Office, as usual.
Please come to give him a warm welcome to our hobby.
Thanks!

Time running out for free ARRL emergency comm course
The US Department of Homeland Security gave ARRL a grant for emergency communications training. As I recall from a recent issue of QST, if you sign up for the AREC Level 1 course, ARRL will refund your tuition once you complete the course, provided you register before June 30.

Morse Code vs text messaging
Hams know why we need to know Morse: it's a fast, efficient way to communicate in bad conditions. However, it's also a way for a 93-year-old to whomp up on a 13-year-old whippersnapper. This C|Net story details a faceoff between a 93-year-old former telegraph operator and a 13-year-old text messager. The OM won in a walkover. So, another reason to learn Morse: it lets you stay competitive even into old age.
